October/November Beach Renourishment
We are currently operating a Beach Renourishment Program to reverse the effects of severe coastal erosion we have experienced due to natural sand loss processes. This involves dredging sand from offshore sandbars adjacent to the beach and pumping it ashore. The works will take approximately 4-5 weeks.
This will protect public infrastructure and natural assets for the community. Beaches will remain open & public access will not be impeded, with temporary restrictions to parts of the beach in place whilst the works take place. The Beach Renourishment will occur between the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron & Cameron's Bight Beach
An Environmental Risk Assessment was undertaken to ensure seagrass communities would not be impacted by the works. The assessment deemed that “temporary, indirect impacts to nearshore seagrass are possible but are considered to be a low risk overall.”
