Cool Changes Program
We've been having an absolute ripper of a time with our Cool Changes Program down here at Whitecliffs Foreshore Reserve, and we thought we'd give you the lowdown on what's been happening! π«π
We've been teaming up with the legends at Rye Primary School. The Foreshore Rangers and the Year 5 students have been working together to connect their classroom learning with our beautiful local environment. π±π
Session one kicked off with a day at the beach, where the students got the lowdown on climate change and sea level rise. We even whipped out some fancy surveyors' gear to predict exactly how much the sea level's going to rise and what impact it'll have onβ the environment, our community, and our precious infrastructure. ποΈπ
Session two was scheduled to be a planting party on the foreshore. We were going to pop in some indigenous plants to give our wildlife more homes and help fight that sea level rise that we learned about in session one. The kids even got creative and designed some funky plant guards to keep 'em safe. But, wouldn't you know it, the weather decided to have a laugh and left the planting to the Friends of Whitecliffs Foreshore Reserve! βπΏ
Now, for the latest session, we put our science lab coats on and went wildlife spotting! The Rangers and the students spent the morning out and about, checking out nest boxes and collecting data like real life scientists. This info is going to be gold, folks, helping us shape our nest box monitoring program down the track. π¦π
Big cheers to the teachers, students, and all the legends at Rye Primary School for diving headfirst into our first year of the Cool Changes Program! We're stoked to that there's still one more session left, and we can't wait to see what's in store next term! ππ
